Now I have earned my 3rd IT/Telecom certification and am on my way towards testing for some of the harder, more highly sought after certs (RHCE, MCSA, JNCIA, CCNA). Basically, I’m using this certification path as a means to fill in gaps in my basic understanding of networking, as well as increase my value in the industry. It’s not enough today to simply know what you’re doing– You must now have proof up front, and the industry standard for that is certifications.
The Network+ exam was actually much more tricky than I thought it’d be. It’s as if it sensed I had a weakness in the area of Apple networks and protocols, so it stuck me with about 4 or 5 complex Apple networking questions. It was also less intense on the OSI model than I was lead to believe it would be. Furthermore, my experience with Unix and Linux came in much more handy than the study material predicted. Overall, I found the test challenging, realistic in its network problem scenarios, and valuable towards making me want to revisit and review what I already know. I’m looking forward to more.
